SocialCam Sees Big Increase In Usage After Adding Filters, 350K Downloads In 2 Weeks
Adding filters to photos has become incredibly popular among smartphone owners. Take a look at Instagram for instance: the
photo-sharing app snagged 10 million users less than a year after launching despite only being available on one platform — iOS. Now, SocialCam has shown that video filters are taking off like wildfire after the company revealed that usage of the video-sharing app has increased dramatically after the company added filters.
SocialCam updated its app earlier this month to include video filters. The most popular filters are 70′s and Electronica, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. In the two weeks since the filter feature was launched, SocialCam had 350,000 downloads; an 84 percent increase in the number of times the app was opened daily; a
69 percent boost in daily video viewers; and, perhaps most importantly, a 50 percent increase in the number of videos that are being created using the app. SocialCam CEO Michael Seibel also told TechCrunch that 45 percent of videos that are currently being shared on SocialCam are using filters. These are certainly impressive numbers and underline how big an impact the addtion of filters can have on an already-popular app.
SocialCam launched its iPhone and Android app in March and the app has been downloaded more than 2 million times since then, while it passed 1 million downloads in July. The app added new log-in options along with a friend finder feature in June and became a separate company from Justin.tv in August.
Thanks. He didn’t believe me about my social anxiety, but he didn’t say
anything about it after we fought all day long. I haven’t even spoken
yet. We’re okay now, I suppose.
