Robber Arrested After Checking Facebook During Break-in, Then Going Back To Steal Computer
We’ve reported on many, many instances where people have been arrested after bragging about their crimes on social networking services. Back in March, a couple was charged with a series of crimes after posting a photo of a stolen ring on Facebook, while earlier this month, two men were arrested after one of them shared a photo of himself with a stolen car on the social network.
These are just a few examples, but here’s another case of a criminal who has been caught out from his use of social networking, albeit in a slightly different way from some of the other criminals we’ve reported on.
Police say that Jason Andrew Smith was robbing a truck rental service in Mississippi when he noticed that the office computers were left on and he decided to check his Facebook account, according to NBC 10. After realising what he had done and thinking that his login credentials might be used to track him down, Smith apparently returned to steal the computer but he was too late and he was arrested at that point. Not exactly the smartest move in the world on Smith’s part.
Checking Facebook while carrying out a crime actually led to another arrest earlier this month, when a teenage burglar was busted by cops when he decided to check the latest activity on his Facebook account when robbing a sporting goods store.
They don’t seem qualified for the “job” they have chosen. Maybe they should try a legitiment one.
I think what happens is his parole is immediately revoked and he has to serve the remainder of his suspended sentence….plus time for the robbery he comitted while he was on
parole.
