Instagram Now Gets More Than 25 Photos, 90 Likes Every Second
Since launching last October, Instagram has seen explosive growth. It now has more than 10 million users, more than double the number of users it had less than 4 months ago and 3 million more than it had at the beginning of August. It has been revealed that Instagram is now seeing more than 25 photos and 90 likes every second.
That’s pretty impressive stuff for a service that has been around for just a year and is currently only available on iOS devices. The photo-sharing service recently updated its iPhone app to improve the photo-taking aspect of the app. There is still no sign of an Android app, but CEO Kevin Systrom says the platform is a major priority for the company.
Meanwhile, Instagram is handling the growth in usage by adopting a new way of storing its data. It’s starting to shard the data, which means it’s splitting data into smaller segments so it can be accessed faster by users. Instagram has been rolling out its new approach to storing data and is pleased with the results so far. As long as it means Instagram remains a fast way to capture and share photos, I’m cool with that.
