Animal abuse is absolutely horrific – and luckily for this dog who was abused by his owner, the social media world agrees.

A man has been arrested on animal abuse charges after a video of himself beating a dog with a pole was filmed and put on Facebook. The video was shot from a neighbor’s house and shows the man kicking a white Staffordshire bull terrier and punching it in the face while, horrifically, a little boy watches and seems to be encouraging the behavior. To put the icing on the cake, while the dog is whimpering to go inside of the house, the door is open yet again and a woman wearing only a bra and pants comes out and whips the dog with a cloth before slamming the door in its face. Eventually the dog is let inside of the house.

According to the Daily Mail, just hours after the disturbing video was posted to Facebook, an angry mob surrounded the man’s house in the English city of Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire. Allegedly the mob smashed the windows of the man’s house and the man was punched when he came to the front door. Eventually, he was arrested and the dog was removed minutes later.

The dog was taken to the Grimsby Blue Cross Animal Hospital to be looked at and is currently in the care of the RSPCA who is investigating the incident, according to a tweet from the organization.

While it is surprising that a mob would have shown up outside of this man’s house, it isn’t surprising that Internet users from all over the world have expressed their disgust with this man’s actions on social networks. Twitter users have taken to the site to share the story with their followers and have commented on the incident saying things like “Please feel free to hit this moron with a bar. I hate animal cruelty” and “I hope they punched him good and hard. If it was you that clobbered him I’ll buy you a pint.” Users on Facebook who reposted the video have been claiming that the man should be “thrown under a f****ing bus” and that someone should “beat the cowardly mother f***er with a pole, and punch him in the head.”

The video spread so widely through both Twitter and Facebook that the RSPCA received so many calls regarding the incident they asked users to stop calling them.

Sadly, animal abuse is something that frequently occurs and often times it’s never figured out and animals are not rescued because they don’t have the voice to help themselves. Social networks help provide evidence to save them. Recently, there was a similar case where a teenager posted photos on Facebook of his dog pinned to a clothing line with clothes pins up and down his back. The teenager faced animal cruelty charges.
