GetGlue Celebrates Spectacular Summer, 130% Rise In Check-ins And 1.5M Users
With the summer having drawn to a close, GetGlue has revealed some impressive stats for the season. The social entertainment service broke its check-in record in each of the last 3 months — it hit 7 million check-ins in June, 9 million in July and 11.5 million in August. Given that there were around 5 million check-ins in May, that means the number of check-ins on GetGlue has grown by 130 percent in 3 months. Not bad at all. Even more impressive is the fact that, since the beginning of 2011, the number of GetGlue check-ins has risen by 800 percent.
The service now has more than 1.5 million users (up from 1 million in April) and has a database of more than 200 million ratings, reviews and check-ins — up from 100 million in April. In August alone, GetGlue users liked 10 million topics, left 3 million comments and generated more than 23 million total data points in a single month.
In total, 17 major TV networks and DirecTV have rewarded users for checking into shows. They include ABC, AMC, Discovery, FOX, HBO, MTV, Oxygen, TV Land and USA Network.
Throughout the summer, “True Blood” was the most checked into TV show, with 490,787 check-ins. The HBO drama also set the record for the highest number of check-ins to a single TV show for its season 4 premiere, with more than 38,000 check-ins. Here is a list of the top 10 most checked into TV shows of the summer:
Other GetGlue TV highlights over the summer include its first international partnership (with Channel 4 in the U.K.) and GetGlue being promoted by FOX during the MLB All-Star Game.
When it came to movies, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” received the highest number of check-ins with 174,189, setting the all-time GetGlue check-in record in the process. Other movies which cracked GetGlue’s summer top 10 include “The Hangover Part II” and “Thor.”
GetGlue movie highlights over the summer included rewards being given for all of the top 10 movies and Entertainment Weekly and HTC giving away free movie tickets to users of the service. Additionally, GetGlue released some interesting data about the correlation between movie check-ins and box office gross for those films, along with data on which days of the week saw the most movie check-ins.
Elsewhere this summer, GetGlue offered tickets to see Cee Lo Green and Rihanna in concert and special stickers for answering trivia questions about TV Land shows “Hot In Cleveland” and “Happily Divorced.”
These are certainly exciting times for GetGlue, which rolled out a new mobile website in June, added new features — such as Foursquare stickers and trending shows — in July and updated its Android app last month.
