‘AWESOME Video Nicole’s Baby Kicking - The Belly View - Unbelievable’ Scam Spreads Across Facebook
People are fascinated by babies – plain and simple. Perhaps that’s why this video scam of a baby kicking inside his mother’s pregnant belly is spreading like wildfire throughout Facebook.
The video will show up in your News Feed as a post by a friend, and it certainly looks like it could be real. Common factors that lure people into video scams, like the promise of a sex tape or something so gross and disturbing you wish you could unsee it, are missing. This just seems like a normal video of a normal pregnant lady.
The video will be entitled “AWESOME Video ‘Nicole’s Baby Kicking - The Belly View - Unbelievable’” and the description will say “An amazing view of a baby kicking and moving his way out of the belly while at the beach.” Don’t be fooled; there’s nothing amazing behind that link.
If you click on the link, you’ll notice you are directed to a website that’s unfamiliar and the only content on the page are some ads and the video. It’s not a link to YouTube, Vimeo or any other well-known service. This is usually a huge indicator that it’s a scam. However, the video looks like it was taken from YouTube and embedded into the website like most YouTube videos when they are shared.
Another major indicator that it’s a scam is that the scammers directly ask you to share the video or you can’t watch it. These kinds of scams are prevalent on Facebook, but if it was a real video, would you really need to share it first? Probably not — especially if it was really from YouTube.
If you do share the video by mistake, make sure you delete it immediately from your News Feed so it does not spread to your friends.
While the scammers don’t seem like they’re trying to harvest any personal information, it is possible that they are trying to get users to spam their friends in hopes of generating more traffic to earn revenue.
