Anonymous Conflicted Over November Facebook Attack, Not All Members Involved In #OpFacebook
Anonymous has commented on reports suggesting that it is planning to take down Facebook on Nov. 5. Earlier on Wednesday, we reported that the hacking group is planning to “kill” the world’s largest social network, but it seems that only a few members are involved in the plot. In fact, some Anonymous members appear to doubt that such an attack is even in the works.
Through the @AnonOps Twitter account, which has been one of the main sources of communication from the group, Anonymous says that #OpFacebook is fake.
The person or people running the account later added that the operation is being organized by some members of Anonymous and hinted that not all members are on board with the plan.
The rumored attack is apparently being planned in response to the lack of privacy that Facebook users have on the social network. Concern over privacy is one of the main reasons that Anonymous is setting up its AnonPlus social network.
Regardless of the motivations behind the attack, it is clear that not all of Anonymous supports it. If the attack is being planned and carried out by a subset of Anonymous, then it appears likely that this will not be on the same scale as previous attacks.
