INFOGRAPHIC: Which Tech Companies Help Spawn The Most Successful Startups
Tech companies are constantly battling to secure the highest level of talent, but once the talent is there, it doesn’t mean it’s secure. Star employees from some of the top tech companies like Google and Microsoft often jump ship to start their own endeavors. Out of this, many new and innovative companies are born.
With all of the startups that have launched from the former employees of tech giants, we can help narrow down which company has produced the most and greatest talent by taking a look at one thing — the startup’s funding.
TopProspect, a website that helps users find jobs through their connections on social networks, has put together this infographic of some of the top tech companies and the venture capital funding that was raised by former employees’ endeavors. The results were compiled by analyzing data, which dates back as early as 2006, from TopProspect’s 3 million users and connections who had startups that were founded within the last 5 years. Each startup had to have 10 people in TopProspect’s network to be included in the data.
The data showed that when it comes to launching impressive companies, Google is responsible for some of the most successful startups. Former employees of the tech giant have founded 13 companies that combined, received the highest level of funding — $309.88 million total. Google employees are responsible for such innovations as Foursquare, who recently snagged $50 million in a funding round and hit 10 million users, Color, MyLikes and Polyvore.
The company that ranks at the bottom, but still has great room to grow since it’s so new, is Facebook. Only 7 companies that met TopProspect’s criteria spawned from Facebook alumni but they’re some of the most buzz-worthy startups on the scene. Quora and Path are both popular platforms that were founded by ex-Facebook talent, though overall, properties that spawned from the company have only raised $65.5 million in funding.
