State Of The Twitter Union: Daily Tweets At 155M
Twitter released some impressive figures late on Wednesday which show double-digit percent increases in usage over the first quarter of 2011. The company also revealed that it is now seeing 155 million tweets a day - a dramatic rise from the 55 million tweets it was seeing daily a year ago and the 140 million figure we’ve had since the last update.
It seems Twitter’s PR team was so pleased with the first quarter growth that it decided to tweet the information through its Twitter profile, @twitterglobalpr. Instead of sending you over there to sift through its feed we’ve listed the updated figures below.
- Daily tweets increased by 41 percent. 38 percent increase in U.S. alone
- Monthly account sign-ups increased by 52 percent from December to March globally and 57 percent in the U.S.
- There was a 50 percent increase in unique mobile sign-ups
- Monthly app user increase of 104 percent for android, 72 percent for iPad, 55 percent for iPhone and 51 percent for Blackberry
Since Twitter has been seeping further and further into the mainstream media with things like official hashtags for television events and marketing cross-promotions for sporting events, the dramatic uptick in numbers isn’t too unexpected. Still, it’s nice that Twitter keeps us updated, even if they only choose to do so at their leisure.
