Interactive Map Visualizes Twitter Knowledge By Location
Have you ever wondered where people who know a lot about a particular subject are located? A cool Twitter visualization map lets you find out just that by letting you view the hottest locations for any topic.
InboxQ has analyzed millions of Twitter accounts to find out which users know the most about certain topics and where they are located. The locations of these knowledge pockets are then displayed on a map. For instance, if you search for “startups” on the knowledge map, you’ll see that there are concentrated pockets of knowledge around New York, San Francisco and London, with additional heat around the East Coast and Vancouver.
A search for “Kindle Fire,” the new Amazon tablet that was announced Wednesday, shows the U.K. and the New York areas as the locations where users who have tweeted most often about the device are located. Meanwhile, a search for “Bieber,” perhaps surprisingly, shows London as the main hotspot:
You can search for and visualize several topics at once. However, it should be noted that InboxQ has only analyzed Twitter accounts that tweet in English, so the results tend to favor countries where users primarily tweet in English.
It’s a very cool way of giving added context to the more than 1 billion weekly tweets that are sent by 100 million monthly active Twitter users. I hope that tweets in other languages are indexed in the future, as this could potentially be a very useful tool for businesses to see where people are talking about their products in a variety of languages and countries.
